Lending Voices to Combat Malaria: A Hausa Voiceover Initiative

Client Profile: Alternative View Studios, an acclaimed creator of custom animations and digital content, has frequently joined forces with us in crafting compelling narratives. Our latest collaboration involved a Hausa voiceover project, reflecting our shared commitment to meaningful communication.

Project Overview: The project’s heart lay in a series of training animations designed to support health workers in the administration of Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) to safeguard children during the peak malaria season. The initiative reached an impressive 22 million children across 13 countries in 2019, marking a significant public health effort.

Our Approach: As a trusted Hausa voiceover agency, we meticulously reviewed the materials and worked closely with the client to select a voiceover artist whose tone resonated with the animations’ educational and empathetic spirit.

Execution: Our process was swift and transparent, ensuring deadlines were met while keeping the client informed at every stage. We facilitated a recording session that the client could join remotely, offering them the opportunity to direct the voiceover artist, thus ensuring alignment with their vision.

Quality Assurance: With our state-of-the-art studio and professional sound engineers, we guaranteed that the editing and final audio outputs adhered to the client’s high-quality standards.

Outcome: The final Hausa voiceover was met with approval from Alternative View Studios, reinforcing the success of our collaborative efforts. Our involvement in this project was not just a service rendered but a shared contribution to a vital health initiative.

Hear the Difference: The successful completion of this voiceover project stands as evidence of our commitment to excellence and our role in amplifying messages that have a profound impact on public health.

A Brief History Of Hausa

Hausa (Yaren Hausa or Harshen Hausa) is the Chadic language (a branch of the Afroasiatic language family) with the largest number of speakers, spoken as a first language by about 35 million people, and as a second language by millions more in Nigeria, and millions more in other countries, for a total of at least 41 million speakers. Originally the language of the Hausa people stretching across southern Niger and northern Nigeria, it has developed into a lingua franca across much of western Africafor purposes of trade. In the 20th and 21st centuries, it has become more commonly published in print and online.

There are a few traditional dialects, differing mostly due to tonality. The language was commonly written with a variant of the Arabic script known as ajami but is more often written with the Latin alphabet known as boko.

Native speakers of Hausa, the Hausa people, are mostly to be found in Niger, in the north of Nigeria, and Chad. Furthermore, the language is used as a trade language across a much larger swathe of West Africa (Benin, Ghana, Cameroon, Togo, Ivory Coastetc.), Central Africa (Chad, Central African Republic, Gabon) and northwestern Sudan, particularly amongst Muslims.

It is taught at universities in Africa and around the world. The language is the most commonly spoken language in Nigeria, but unlike Yoruba and Igbo, it is also widely spoken outside Nigeria, especially in Niger, Ghana, Cameroon and Sudan. Radio stations like BBC, Radio France Internationale, China Radio International, Voice of Russia, Voice of America, Arewa 24 Deutsche Welle, and IRIBbroadcast in Hausa.
