From the latin adventus, advent is the four-week period that precedes Christmas. Although this celebration might be often associated with religious rituals of many kinds, it has become part of the pagan celebration of Christmas. It could be said that the most common advent calendar nowadays is the chocolate calendar, like the ones we all have at the office. However, there are many types of advent calendars.
Bene’s parents, for example, used to hang little packs on a string and each day she and her sisters would find in them different little things: from candy and fruit, to stationary or little toys. Ally’s parents, on the other hand, prepared a fabric tree with 24 pockets from which Ally and her sister would pull out different little Christmas items each day and stick them on the tree.
Whether it’s with chocolate, fabric or different types of treats, we all have our way to await the great holiday of Christmas!
