Talk us through one of your days as a Brazilian Portuguese voiceover artist?
My daily life as a Brazilian Portuguese voiceover artist. It goes like this. When the text comes, I get ready for the recording to deliver in the least amount of time. My clients usually have a preference for speed. I work a lot with retail, with quick sales. And the product, in this case, a film, a trailer, a testimonial… Whatever they are looking for, a speedy delivery is necessary. Therefore, I have a home studio and I am able to accommodate my clients.
What has been your most exciting project so far?
The most exciting project I’ve worked on for voiceover was also for retail. I was employed for 16 years for a major furniture and domestic appliance retailer called Casas Bahia. Over 16 years, I recorded approximately 85,000 commercials. 85,000 jobs. It was very exciting. Now, it terms of work for other clients, it’s the international projects that are really thrilling to do. You give a Brazilian twist to a foreign product.
Can you share any tips for Brazilian Portuguese voiceover artists just getting started?
My advice to a professional starting out in the voiceover field is to be yourself. A client will know when you are trying to impersonate a character, when you are not being true to yourself, and the actor’s talent can be properly harnessed when he is authentic and doesn’t try to copy another professional. This truth is only achieved when you really know yourself. Knowing how far you can go, what the potential of your voice, interpretation and understanding of what the product you are narrating for is. Having a correct and precise brief makes the voiceover talent’s life a lot easier.
What advice do you have for a client working with you for the first time?
What tip can I give to someone working in voiceover for the first time? Have a meeting ahead of time. Get to know the product better, the client, how he thinks, and know which audience this product or recording will be targeted at. Knowing who this person is, makes it possible to hone your talent for this recording. In conclusion, the work of a voiceover talent is amazing when you have information, because recording and re-recording due to a lack of information is very annoying, so for your development it is better to have a conversation ahead of time to understand the product that you will narrate for.
